Irregular Verbs
Most verbs follow predictable patterns when it comes to the changing of tense:
walk climb
walks climbs
walked climbed
walking climbing
drop watch
drops watches
dropped watched
dropping watching
carry hike
carries hikes
carried hiked
carrying hiking
Some verbs don't follow these patterns. Here are some exceptions (the
exceptions are shown with an asterisk):
run catch
runs catches
*ran *caught
running catching
sweep go
sweeps goes
*swept *went
sweeping going
As you can see, irregular verbs are mostly irregular only in their past
tense.
