Pronouns

Pronouns are words used to refer to a noun which recently been used in a written or spoken passage. Here are some basic pronouns:


	he		she		it		they

	we		me		I		us

	them		her		him		

There are also possessive pronouns which refer to another noun and show that that noun owns something. Here are some possessive pronouns:


	his		her		their		my

	our		our		its


Compound Words

A compound word is a word which is made up of two words put together to make a new word. The meaning of a compound word is composed of the combined meanings of the two words which it is made of. Here are some common compound words:


	treehouse		driveway			applesauce

	rattlesnake		jellyroll			livingroom

	homesick		nationwide			breakfast

	peanut			chestnut			hardwood

Although the following word look like the could be compound words, they aren't because the meaning of the full word is not the sum of the meanings of the two shorter words:

	carpet			acorn			office

	hemlock
