Prefixes: Under- and Iso-

Here are some words which begin with the under- prefix:


	underweight		underachieve			understand

	undercover		underground			underwear

	underline		undergraduate			underage

The prefix under- means less than or below.

Here are some words which begin with the iso- prefix:


	isobar			isoceles			isolate

	isotope			isometrics			isomorphic

	isotropic		isotherm			isotonic

The prefix iso- means equal or alike.


Word Families

Here's an example of what we call a word family in this lesson:


	jump
	jumps
	jumping
	jumped
	jumper

A word family includes all the variations of the word which can be obtained by changing the ending suffix to the root word.

Here's another example:


	grow
	grows
	growing
	growth
	grown
	grower

Notice that "grew" is not on the list since the root word must be changed and only forms of the word with a suffix added onto the root word are part of the word family.
