Acronyms

Acronyms are different than initializations. In an initialization you say the letters separately not as a word. Here are some initializations:

	FBI: Federal Bureau of Investication

	UFO: unidentified flying object

	BLM: Bureau of Land Management

	EPA: Environmental Protection Agency

	CIA: Central Intelligence Agency

	UK: United Kingdom

Remember that an acronym is said as a word (not as a sequence of letters).

Here are a few more acronyms:

	NATO: North Atlantic Treaty Organization

	SWAT: Special Weapons Action Team

SNAFU: situation normal, all fouled up

	MADD: Mothers Against Drunk Driving

	RIF: Reading is Fundamental

	SADD: Students Against Drunk Driving
