Prefixes: Mono and Bi

The prefix bi means two. Here are some words which begin with "bi".


	bimonthly		biweekly		bicentennial

	bilingual		bicycle			biennial

	biplane			binomial		bipolar

Not all words that begin with the letters contain the prefix bi. For instance the words "biscuit", "biology", "bird", "birth", and "bikini" definitely do not begin with the prefix bi eventhough they begin with the letters "bi". Remember that a prefix has a special meaning which works in combination with a root word.

Here are some meanings of works beginning with the prefix bi:


  biweekly - twice a week

  bilingual - knowing two languages

  bicycle - a cycle with two tires

  bicentenial - a two hundred year anniversary

  bimonthly - twice a month
