Analogies
The best analogy puzzles are those which have only one good answer. Of
course, there are often many reasonable answers to an analogy. Consider this
example:
Europe is to France as Africa is to ________.
Any country in Africa could complete this analogy (unless there is something
about France and one other country in Africa which makes a comparison
between these two countries obviously special).
It would be better to turn the parts of the analogy around like this:
France is to Europe as Libya is to ___________.
In this case the only logical answer is "Africa" since Libya is a country on
the continent of Africa.
Analogy puzzles can be a lot of fun to solve. Here's an example:
Trona is to California as Austin is to __________.
A problem here is that there is an Austin in Nevada and an Austin in Texas
(and probably a few others too). So, we might have to try a couple possible
states before we get this one right!
