Letter Patterns

Several words in this unit contain the -rt letter pattern: 


	forth			sport			squirt

	shirt			heart
Another letter pattern which occurs a few times in this list is the -so letter pattern: 

	desolate		isolated		lonesome

The Colon

The colon can be used in several different ways including: 


   1. time
   2. introducing a list
The following are examples of how colons can be used in time: 

	four o'clock					4:00
	three thirty					3:30
	four minutes, fourteen seconds			4:14
	two hours, eight minutes, twelve seconds	2:08:12
As you can see, the colon can be used to separate hours from minutes, minutes from seconds, or both.

The colon can also be used to introduce a list in a sentence. Here's an example: 


	Jill visited three cities: Elko, Ely, and Pioche.
