The Colon

The colon can be used in several different ways. We will concentrate on two uses for colons in this lesson:

  1. time
  2. introducing a list
The following are examples of how colons can be used in time: 

	four o'clock					4:00
	three thirty					3:30
	four minutes, fourteen seconds			4:14
	two hours, eight minutes, twelve seconds	2:08:12
As you can see, the colon can be used to separate hours from minutes, minutes from seconds, or both.

Here are a few more time examples: 


	five forty-five						5:45
	three minutes, thirty-eight seconds			3:48
	six hours, twenty-six minutes, fifty-one seconds	6:26:51
