Verb Tense

As you know, verbs can take various forms. Consider these examples:

	jump jumps jumped jumping
	crawl crawls crawled crawling
	bury buries buried burying
	carry carries carried carrying
	punch punches punched punching
	run runs ran running
	take takes took taking
	get gets got getting
	go goes went going

Here is the verb crawl used in each form in sentences:

	They crawl through the mud.

	He crawls through the mud.

	They crawled through the mud.

He is crawling through the mud.

Since we have talked about adding -ing and -ed to verbs, we will concentrate in this lesson about adding -s to verbs. We have also talked about pluralizing nouns and it just so happens that the same basic rules apply:

	1. DROP THE Y AND ADD -IES
Use on words which end with Y like: carry/carries, hurry/hurries
But not on words like: play/plays, annoy/annoys

	2. ADD -ES
Use on words which end with ss, ch, x, or sh: reach/reaches, fix/fixes
NOTE: You must add -es to go.

	3. JUST ADD -S
Use on most words like: jump/jumps, drink/drinks
