Verbs

A verb names an action. Actions are things that people, places, or things do.


  PEOPLE: Jill ran down the road.

  PLACES: Idaho grows a lot of potatoes.

  THINGS: The rock rolled down the mountain.

Actions sometimes don't seem to be physically active. Take these verbs for example:

	think	sleep	sit	wait	watch

	rest	stare	freeze	stand	stop


Compound Words

Compound words are formed when two or more words are put together.


	jelly + roll = jellyroll
	sun + shine = sunshine
	sea + shore = seashore
	south + east = southeast
	cow + boy = cowboy
	home + sick = homesick
	living + room = livingroom


Here are some more compound words:

	railroad	outside		motorcycle

	nationwide	breakfast	everything	

	fireplace
