Adding -ing
The -ing suffix can be added to the end of verbs. Here are a few examples:
run running
hike hiking
sing singing
sit sitting
jump jumping
cook cooking
time timing
As you can see adding the -ing suffix is not as simple as just adding -ing
to the end of a verb. There are three different ways of adding -ing and
which one you use depends on certain patterns in the verb you are adding
-ing to.
PATTERN ONE: JUST ADD -ING
cook cooling
color coloring
heat heating
talk talking
think thinking
dunk dunking
drink drinking
jump jumping
speak speaking
rent renting
play playing
ski skiing
