Apostrophes

Sometimes more than one thing possesses another thing. In these cases we place the apostrophe a little differently. Consider this example:

The boys' game will start at noon.

If something belongs to a group and the word we use for the group ends with an "s" then we just add an apostrophe to show ownership. Here are a couple of examples.

We stopped to watch the children's game.

We stopped to watch the girls' game.

To talk about more than one child we use the word children. Since it does not end with an "s" we add apostrophe-s to show possession. To talk about more than one girl we use the word girls. Since it does end with an "s" we just add an apostrophe to show possession.
