Contractions

Contractions are formed from two words as shown on the following list:

	TWO WORDS		CONTRACTION
	 will not		  won't
	 should not		  shouldn't
	 do not			  don't
	 are not		  aren't
	 can not		  can't
	 does not		  doesn't
	 would not		  wouldn't
	 could not		  couldn't
	 has not		  hasn't
	 have not		  haven't
	 must not		  mustn't
	 let us			  let's

Although contractions really don't spare us from writing many letters, they are a tiny bit shorter than the two words they substitute for. Here are a few examples of contractions in action:

	Jill didn't drink the bottle of water.

	Joe couldn't impress the judges at the talent show.

	Jane said, "Let's go to the store."
