Suffix: -er and -est

When you add -est to an adjective you create what is called the superlative form of that adjective. Here are some examples:

	Adjective Comparative
	  tall tallest
	  small smallest
	  pretty prettiest
	  scary scariest
	  big biggest
	  large largest

As you can see, when adding -est to an adjective you sometimes must drop the y and add -iest and sometimes you must double the final consonant.

Here are some adjectives in their superlative form used in sentences:

Lisa is the laziest child in her family.

Bill had the scariest costume at the party.

Jill is the youngest child in her family.

Bad and Good

Here are the comparative and superlative forms of bad and good. As you can tell these are irregular adjectives since they don't follow the usual pattern for forming comparatives and superlatives.

     ADJECTIVE COMPARATIVE SUPERLATIVE

	bad worse worst

	good better best
