Adverbs
An adverb can modify a verb, an adjective, or another adverb. It can be used
to tell how, when, where, why, or how much. Here are a few example sentences
in which the adverb is underlined.
1) The children screamed loudly.
2) She quickly walked down the hall.
3) He did not go on the trip.
In sentence one "loudly" tells how the children screamed. The word "quickly" in
sentence two tells how the person walked. The word "not" is always an adverb.
In sentence three the word "not" modifies the verb go.
