Adding -ING

As you will recall their are three rules for adding -ing:


  1) drop the e and add -ing (for words which end in a single e)
  2) double the final consonant (for words which end with a
       single vowel followed by a single consonant)
  3) just add -ing (this rule works for MOST words)

Here are a few examples:

     hike		hiking
     swim		swimming
     laugh		laughing
     write		writing
     hit		hitting
     fly		flying

Plural Nouns

We discussed two ways of pluralizing nouns in this unit:


    1) Just add s (this works for most nouns)
    2) drop the y and add -ies (works for MOST nouns that end in y)
  
Here are some examples:

    city		cities
    boy			boys
    battery		batteries
    fly			flies
    stone		stones
    key			keys
    jelly		jellies
