Language Arts - Word Analysis - Syllables

A syllable is a part of a word that is made up of one vowel sound. The word "sound" is in bold because sometimes two or more vowels work together to create a single vowel sound. For instance, in the word "sound" the "ou" work together to produce a single verb sound.

Here are the one-syllable words:


	square			zoo			fruit
	
	peach			grape			rice

Here are the two-syllable words:

	season			earwig			notice

	unit			cherry			living

Here are some three-syllable words:

	blueberry		educate			emphasize

	engagement		calendar		important

	syllable		elephant		compartment

	calendar		skeleton		discover

Now for a few four-syllable words:

	education		agriculture		huckleberry

	discovery		dictionary		situation

Examples of five-syllable words are a little more difficult to find:

	articulation		misinformation		congratulations

	coincidental		unacceptable		chronological

Finally, here are some six-syllable word:

	responsibility		circumnavigation	prestidigitation
