Verbs
A verb is an action word. It names something someone or something does. Here are some common and easily recognized verbs:
throw sit jump walk run roll build break crack said read sat
He cracked the egg. The egg rolled on the table. Jill walks in the woods on Sundays. The beavers built a dam.
PEOPLE: Jill ran down the road. PLACES: Idaho grows a lot of potatoes. THINGS: The rock rolled down the mountain.
think sleep sit wait watch rest stare freeze stand stop
They stop at the stop sign. The cars wait at the intersection. Joe's friends watch the movie with him. Mary sleeps on the couch.
