High Use Words

Almost certainly some words in the English language are used more often than others. Have you ever thought about which words are used the most often? It is generally believed that the following ten words are the most used words in the English language:

		the				of

		a				and

		to				in

		is				you

		it				that
	  	

Here are ten more very frequently used words:

		for				was

		on				are

		as				with

		they				at

		be				this

There aren't too many sentences which don't contain at least one of the high use words listed on this page.

Some high use words are also words which people (especially students) tend to spell incorrectly fairly often. Here is a list of ten commonly misspelled high use words:

		about				these

		two				could
