Language Arts - Cross-Curricular - Measurement WordsMeasurement Words There are a lot of things you can measure and ways that you can measure stuff. For instance, you can measure the length, temperature, weight, volume, and speed of different objects. As an example, an aquarium may have a volume of ten gallons, which means that it can hold up to ten gallons of water. Here are some more sample sentences. VOLUME: The can holds twelve ounces of soda. SPEED: Jill's car can reach a top speed of eighty-five miles per hour. LENGTH: The distance from Jill's house to Jack's house is three miles. TEMPERATURE: Yesterday afternoon it was eighty-two degrees. WEIGHT: My pet dog weighs three pounds and five ounces. VOLUME: The capacity of a container or how much liquid (or gas) a container can hold. SPEED: How fast an object travels or the rate of travel. LENGTH: How long or tall something is. TEMPERATURE: A way of describing how hot or cold an object is. WEIGHT: How heavy or light something is. Measurement can be using a lot of different units. Here are a bunch of examples: VOLUME: quarts, gallons, cups, ounces, pints, etc. SPEED: usually miles per hour LENGTH: feet, inches, yards, miles, etc. TEMPERATURE: degrees WEIGHT: pounds, ounces, tons, etc. VOLUME: milliliters, liters, etc. SPEED: kilometers per hour LENGTH: millimeters, centimeters, meters, kilometers, etc. TEMPERATURE: degrees WEIGHT: milligrams, grams, kilograms, etc. | |
